In 2011, PWD set about an ambitious plan to reduce CSOs through the use of green stormwater infrastructure.
Every year, PWD awards a private property owner who has exemplified excellence in managing stormwater runoff on their site.

Modifications to PWD infrastructure such as extending a water main or relocating a hydrant or inlet must be reviewed by the Design Branch.
PWD has a robust capital improvement program for green stormwater infrastructure (GSI). Design requirements for PWD-owned GSI vary from private development SMPs.
Non-residential and Condominium parcels that comply with the Stormwater Regulations can obtain stormwater credits and reduce the stormwater management services charge on their monthly water bill. Grant funding may also be available for projects that exceed the Stormwater Regulations.
Projects with more than one acre of earth disturbance are required to obtain a NPDES Permit from PADEP.
Obtain permits to discharge groundwater or stormwater from a construction site and installation of Backflow prevention Assemblies.
Obtain approvals for connections to PWD water and sewer infrastructure
